But let me today take you to the completely opposite sides of that story, let me explain you what Everest actually is. How it has swallowed the dreams of countless travelers. How it has placed its name at the top as one of the dangerous destinations.

Mount Everest stands above the world at 8,848 meters, the highest point on the Earth. It sits in the Solukumbu district, on the border between Nepal and China. The mountain is so great that it holds different names across the different countries. People of Nepal call it Sagarmatha, whereas the people of China and Tibet call it Chomolungma and the entire world calls it Mount Everest. With each passing day people forget that Mount Everest is a sacred mountain and is more dangerous than it looks. It wasn’t until May 29, 1953 that any one was able to face the Mount Everest. But on this date a history was written by the boy who lived below the shadow of the Everest itself. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa from Nepal and Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand successfully completed the first summit. They didn’t conquer the Everest, but survived long enough to touch its peak and come back down. Since then, thousands have attempted to climb the Everest, some were lucky enough to reach the top. But the mountain has also taken over a lot of lives.

Every year thousands of traveler’s lands in Kathmandu with the eyes on Mount Everest. They prepare themselves to finally go to Everest, their dream destination. Some have left their usual job, some have left the comfort and family, some have emptied their pocket, some have spent their whole savings just to witness and summit the highest peak without a guarantee to return back. This is Mount Everest, as attractive as a magnet is to the metal but this is where everything begins.
