The Secrets of Manaslu Trek

While the world is busy exploring the popular destinations like Everest and Annapurna, a less crowded giant silently waits in the Western Gorkha district of Nepal. Manaslu, the eighth highest peak situated at an altitude 8,163 meters above the sea level is the center of attraction of this trek.  The Manaslu Circuit is not just a random trek; it is an invitation into a world only few travelers know about.

This trek offers you raw Himalayan beauty, authentic Tibetan influenced culture, and a sense of genuine wilderness.

Secret 1: Less Crowded.

Unlike Everest and Annapurna region, Manaslu required a special Restricted Area Permit which eventually leads to low tourist visiting Manaslu. This is not a disadvantage but an opportunity to travel freely. You won’t have to stay in a queue in order to cross the checkpoint. You can find the tea house with very limited tourists where the owners themselves sit with for coffee. You’ll walk for hours and will only hear the sound of nature, rivers and birds. This is the first secret of Manaslu.

Secret 2: The Larkya La Pass (5,160 m).

At 5,160 meters, Larkya La Pass is one of the greatest highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Crossing it is one of the most challenging — and rewarding — adventures the trail has to offer. As they say, the harder the journey, the more breathtaking the reward.

Reaching the top of Larkya La Pass, you are greeted by views that words struggle to capture. The colors that emerge across the snow, the neighboring peaks of Himlung, Cheo Himal, and Kang Guru glowing golden with the first rays of sunlight — it is a moment that belongs only to those who earned it with their feet.

This is Larkya La Pass. No photograph can hold it. You simply have to be there.

Secret 3: The Decades Old Monasteries.

Manaslu Circuit Trek is the home of monasteries that were built hundred of years ago. Pungyen Gompa is one of those monasteries that was built six to seven hundred years before. This is the perfect place to meditate and connect with the spirituality and divine. Ribung Gompa, Lhi Monastery, Lhogaun Gumba, Serang Gompa and Sama Gompa are other monasteries that are located in Manaslu.

Secret 4: Strong Tibetan Culture.

As you enter the Manaslu Circuit, you’ll feel like you have just entered the different country. Manaslu is highly influenced by the Tibetan culture, the small settlements full of stoned house, mani walls and prayers flag fluttering all over the route. The Manaslu Circuit trek is a brilliant opportunity for one to enjoy the beautiful Tibetan culture in a peaceful environment.
