Overview

Langtang Ganja La Pass is a relatively more challenging but demanding trek in the Langtang Region. Nevertheless, you will enjoy this trek— Accomplishing this, you can collect a lifetime experience of exploring hidden mysterious mountains, traditional Himalayan culture, shining peaks, ancient Gompas, and pure natural flora and fauna.

The trek to Ganja La Pass starts with driving from Kathmandu to Dhunche through a rough pastoral road and dense forest. When you enter Langtang National Park, you find this as the habitat of a wide range of plants, birds, and animal species. In addition, you may encounter endangered wild animals such as Mongolian black bears, snow leopards, musk deer, and red pandas.

Following the rugged trails and passing through the numerous traditional villages, you can witness spectacular views of the pristine snow-capped peaks, green forests, cliffs, roaring rivers, hypnotic lakes, and glaciers. You visit the 700-year-old monastery—Kyanjin Gompa. You also collect camping experiences in Ngegang, Keldang, and Duku.

In addition, the jaw-dropping scenes of the incredible mountain ranges such as Langtang Lirung Himal Ganesh Himal, including Annapurna ranges, Manaslu range, Lakpa Dorje, and a few other peaks, will hypnotize you. Itinerary

Day 01 :
Arrival Day and Trek Briefing in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,265ft.)

After your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, one of the representatives of Wonder Himalaya will be there to greet and welcome you. We, the team of Wonder Himalaya, will make sure that you reach to your accommodation safe and comfortably. For the rest of your first day, you can either rest or walk around the Kathmandu city. At the end of the day, you’ll have a short meeting with your guide regarding the trek. We’ll also go through your trekking gears and make you sure you are not missing anything. If something is missing, we will buy or rent it the following day.

Day 02 :
Reserve Day in Kathmandu

Today you’ll spend your day exploring around the city of Kathmandu. We’ll guide you through some of the best attraction sites of Kathmandu valley. We will visit Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and also Kathmandu Durbar Square. We, Wonder Himalaya will make sure you will have a great time exploring around the Kathmandu valley. And we suggest you to take a proper rest tonight as we will officially begin our journey from tomorrow.

Day 03 :
Drive from Kathmandu to Dunche (2,030 meters / 6,660ft).

Today we will step outside the Kathmandu valley, we will go through the mountain roads with scenic views of villages, rivers and terraced fields. And soon we’ll reach Trishuli Bazaar. From here we will drive furthermore and after a complete drive of six to seven hours, we’ll finally make our way to Dunche. Dunche is the headquarters of Rasuwa District and the entry point to both Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek. We will stay here overnight, watching the view of Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal.

Day 04 :
Trek from Dunche to Thulo Syabru (2,210m/ 7,250ft).

The day four is our actual walking day, we will start our first trek journey from Dhunche, then we will go through a mix of terraced farmland, pine and rhododendron forests. On our way, we will get the little glimpse of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. We will go pass by some small water streams, suspension bridge and dense forest, hearing the beautiful sounds of Himalayan birds. Soon we will reach Thulo Syabru, a picturesque village known for its wide Himalayan Panoramas. We’ll stay here for tonight, and prepare ourselves for the upcoming journey.

Day 05 :
Trek to Lama Hotel (2,500m / 8,201ft).

Today we will begin our trek to Lama Hotel, through terraced field, dense oak and rhododendron forests, where we might get a chance to spot some langur and Himalayan birds. We will follow the Langtang Khola, and cross through some suspension bridge. Soon we will pass the small settlements like Bamboo (1,970m) and Rimche (2,400m). From Rimche we’ll walk for next thirty minutes and finally make our way to Lama Hotel. We will stay here for tonight and enjoy the service at Lama Hotel.

Day 06 :
Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m / 11,253ft).

Our day six starts with a journey from Lama Hotel, passing through beautiful pine and hemlock forests before emerging into open yak pastures. Climbing for a bit further, we’ll get to see the first close up view of Langtang Lirung (7,227m). On our way we will pass through small settlements like Ghoda Tabela. And soon we will place our step on Langtang Valley, a traditional Tamang settlement.

Day 07 :
Trek from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,830m/ 12,565ft):

After a wonderful night at Langtang Village, we will now head towards Kyanjin Gompa. The trek to Kyanjin Gompa is short about three to four hours. We will go through yak grazing lands and across small glacial streams. Once we reach Kyanjin Gompa, we will first visit Buddhist monastery, then we’ll visit the famous Kyanjin cheese factory and taste the fresh yak cheese as well. We’ll stay overnight here and enjoy the stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and other peaks.

Day 08 :
Acclimatization & Exploration day at Kyanjin Gompa

The day eight of our journey will be dedicated for rest. As we have been walking for several days, our body need proper rest and we should make sure we are both physically and mentally fit. However, at the day time we’ll go on a hike to Tserko Ri (4,984m) for a stunning view of the Langtang range and surrounding glaciers. Or we can go on a short hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773m). With these activities we will conclude our day seven and most importantly take a proper rest.

Day 09 :
Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Ngengang (4,200m/ 13,780ft)

Today we will start our trek from Kyanjin Gompa, we’ll go downhill through alpine meadows and sparse forests. We’ll pass through yak pastures and small stone settlements, and will experience a panoramic view of Langtang Lirung, Langshisha Ri and other peaks nearby. After almost four hours of trek, we will finally reach Ngegang, a quiet and peaceful place. We’ll setup our tent here and take a proper rest to continue our journey tomorrow.

Day 10 :
Trek from Ngegang to Ganja-La Pass (5,106m/ 16,751ft) to Keldang (4,270m/ 14,008ft)

The tenth day of our journey is a bit challenging, we will first ascend steeply through alpine meadows, rocky slopes, and yak pastures. After walking for at least six hours we will arrive at Ganja La Pass, one of the highest and most scenic points in the Langtang region. From here we’ll blessed with the view of Langtang Lirung, Langshisha Ri, and Shishapangma. From here we’ll now descend toward Keldang, passing through moraines, alpine terrain, and small glacial streams. After descending for at least three hours, we’ll finally reach Keldang, a remote settlement. We’ll stay here overnight.

Day 11 :
Trek from Keldang to Dukpu (4,040m / 13,254ft).

 Today’s trek from Keldang to Dukpu will be moderate, we’ll descend through alpine meadows and glacial moraines. We might get a chance to see the view of surrounding peaks such as Langtang Lirung and Langshisha Ri. After a complete walk of at least four to five hours, we’ll finally make our way to Dukpu, a small and peaceful settlement. With this we’ll conclude our day eleven.

Day 12 :
Trek from Dukpu to Tarke Ghyang (2,600m/ 8,530ft)

Today we’ll leave Dukpu and descend toward Tarke Ghyang, we’ll pass though alpine pastures and forests of rhododendron, pine, and oak. We’ll pass by small stone settlements, and prayer flags fluttering along the way. As we get closer to Tarke Ghyang, we’ll be able to witness the panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Langshisha Ri and surrounding peaks. And eventually, we’ll reach Tarke Ghyang, a home of hundred years old monastery.

Day 13 :
Rest Day at Tarke Ghyang:

Today we’ll take a rest from trekking and make sure we are both physically and mentally fit. The rest day is necessary as we have been walking a lot in the past few days. We’ll also explore the village and the Gyalpo monastery, the famous monastery built a century ago. With these activities, we’ll conclude our day thirteen.

Day 14 :
Trek from Tarke Ghyang to Shermathang (2,590m / 8,500ft).

The day fourteen of our trek begins with an early breakfast at Tarke Ghyang. We will then ascend uphill, through mix of terraced fields, rhododendron forests, and pine groves. After climbing upwards, we’ll experience the panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and distant Himalayan ranges. After a complete walk of at least five hours, we will finally reach Shermathang. We will stay here overnight and prepare for the following day.

Day 15 :
Trek from Shermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar; and Drive to Kathmandu

Activity Duration:5-6 hrs. Trek, 6 hrs. Drive.

Today will be the final walking day of our trek, today we will leave for Kathmandu. We’ll begin our trek downhill from Shermathang, passing through terraced fields, pine and oak forest, and charming Tamang and sherpa village. We will walk for at least four hours and finally arrive at Melamchi Pul Bazaar, a lively riverside town where the trek officially ends. From here we’ll drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying the road views from the window of the jeep. And after almost four hours, we’ll finally return back to Kathmandu. Once we reach the Kathmandu, we suggest you to take a proper rest as we have just completed such a long journey.

Day 16 :
Reserve Day in Kathmandu or an extra day.

We are almost at the end of our journey, today you will have a free time to explore Kathmandu city, we will guide you through some of the best and remarkable locations of Kathmandu city. We will go and explore around the Basantapur area and have some delicious Newari food. And also, you can walk around the streets of Thamel and buy some souvenir to take it back with you as a piece of memory. At the end of the day, you’ll be provided a farewell dinner from Wonder Himalaya to celebrate the completion of your wonderful journey. You can also use this day as an extra day in case of delay or if you wish to spend an extra day at any point along the route.

Farewell/Departure Day:

On the final day of our journey, we will bid you farewell and arrange your transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport. Please make sure your luggage is packed and that you haven’t left anything behind. We will ensure you reach the airport on time. And hope to have you here next year for another trek.
